I didn't see references to Jonathan Shay (Achilles in Viet Nam) in the bibliography.  His work with PTS seems to be reflected throughtout WARl.  I thoroughly was engaged by WAR (enjoyed seems to be the wrong term) as it reminded me of the military brotherhood I was tangentially involved with in Korea during VN in an Inf Bde.  Thanks for the work, and efforts to explain and support our grunts.

Hi there, I've read Shay's book - it's absolutely amazing. His follow-up was equally good. I didnt reference them in my book because I didnt consult them during the writing or research...they were just books I read many years ago. The research I did was mostly based on military studies of combat psychology, starting in World War One. But Shay's books are a must for anyone interested in the effect of combat on men, thanks for mentioning it.
