Sebastian,

Knowing what I know about what my son has so far experienced in Afghanistan as a member of the 173rd and an infantry soldier, this book, to me, is universal in it's depiction of what infantry soldiers are experiencing.   I could put my son and his "brothers' in your book, I have heard very similar stories and sentiments from them (the majority of them on their first deployment).  You gave me a more complete picture and understanding of what these months have been like for my son and his "brothers".  I thank you for that.

Congratulations on Making the NYT Best Seller List, but you have done so much more than that, you have put into words what our sons or we may never have been able to do. It is so well written. Thank you again.

Hello Alicia...

I want to say thank you to your son and his 'brothers' for allowing me to have the freedom I experience each day because they are there giving themselves, their time, energy, their freedom, sacrificing their young adulthood for me..a stranger....I admire their loyalty and appreciate all they do...please let them know....they are in my prayers..
Thank you for sharing them with the rest of the united states in this thing called 'WAR'
Have a great weekend and be good to yourself....I am a mother with grown daughters...I worry sometimes and they are not in jeopardy...I pray for your peace....So long for now...Clare
Dear Alicia -

Thank you so much for what you said...that is really kind. It was an incredible experience to be with thoes guys and i'm glad I did them justice. Best of luck to your son...

Hi Alicia,

My son was also there up at Vegas in B Company. My husband and I wept when we read about the ambush experiences that killed our sons comrades. I too was helped to understand what our sons went through in such a well written description and also know that it may be a long time before our son can talk to us about the experiences.

After watching the parents of C Company who lost their sons and are trying to get answers on "Dateline" last night I am even more grateful for Sebastian having the courage to be there with our sons and tell their story both in the book and in his documentary. It won't bring our sons back but at least it will give them the dignity and honor that their sacrifice deserves. Also it highlights their courage under fire under incredibly difficult circumstances. No one in my family believed that combat would require living on a mountain top with no showers for six or seven weeks in horribly hot and cold weather with weight loss, etc. etc. but it really happened.

I too, want to thank you Sebastian for having the courage to tell their story.
Dear Alicia -

Thank you very much for what you said...I'm glad my book connected with your experience. And best of luck to your son.

Take care,

Sebastian

Dear Sebastian, Thank You so much for telling the world what War is like. As a retired USAF nurse from the Vietnam era, I feel particularly close to these guys and girls. It is so difficult to explain to friends and relatives what they are going through. I visit the wounded at Walter-Reed and Ft Bragg and have developed close relationships with a few of those in rehab. I wonder what life will be like for them once they leave the protected environment of other service members. Many of them would go back in a heartbeat. Perhaps it's easier then returning to "The World". I recieved my copy of "War" at W-R while you were on tour at the Malone House. Thank you, Thank you, thank you! I'm sending a copy to each of my brothers, my daughter and grandson are reading it now. Every American should read it. Every American should truely understand that Freedom Is Not Free. Restrepo is not in our local theaters in Wilmington, NC. I'm contacting the theaters to find out why. You are God-send! I pray for you as I do for all our military men and women!Mary Anne Daugherty
