Sebastian Junger's Community

The official Sebastian Junger community

Was lucky enough to attend a screening last night at MFA in Boston. Thank you for this film and most gratitude to Dan and Brendan for being there and for answering questions from the audience. I just want to say that I am fortunate enough to work with a tremendous group of people all dedicated to helping Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors, Marines redeploy back home. We work primarily with physical practices like yoga to help folks reclaim a sense of control in their body, be able to sleep, and to calm down when they need to. My group is called There and Back Again (named by a Corpsman who was in the bush with Marines in Vietnam). We want to be of service to any veteran AND their family who is in need. We are located in the Boston area so a bit limited in that way but we may have some other references in other places if you contact me. We have something to offer. Please check us out if you are in need.

Just one correction, it's Brendan O'Byrne, not Brian. LOL

And it was a wonderful - and illuminating - talk.

Thank you for your selfless work, David - and I'm so glad you were able to make it!

Katarina.
I attended also and it was a very powerful portrayal of war at the ground level. Gropus such as David's and VETS Centers amongst others provide great support to not only soldiers but families as well.

The impact of deployments on families cannot be minimized. I have worked for a number of years with soldiers/families/veterans and make it a point to say, soldiers volunteer for duty, families do not.

Sebastian has done so much with his book and (along with Tim) the video to alert the general public to what today's combat is like and by extension the challenges facing the soldiers upon their return. For that, all of us who wear or have worn the uniform owe a debt of gratitude.

I don't recall who said it but it goes something like this, "soldiers are not in the army, they are the army." Sebastian gives us this view up close and personal at the tip of the spear.
