I have read Sebastian Junger's book War which for some reason unknown to myself, has had an incredible impact on the way I now think and see a soldiers life on the front line of combat, whatever country they maybe fighting in.   I was recently privileged to see Restrepo, this is an amazing piece of visual footage of a soldiers life in Afghanistan.

My heart goes out to soldiers across the world, my thanks to all the soldiers in Restrepo who have changed my understanding of war and thank you Sebastian for your amazing written words in War and your video skills in Restrepo.

I have also read the book, and E.B. Sledges book, and Dick Winters book, I would recommend them all.
I hope that Tim and Sebastian do more Movies, Restrepo is in a class of its own. Every Cinema Should be showing this movie...
I completely agree, I just read WAR and saw Restrepo last night, these guys are incredible, true leaders, full of courage.  I have a new respect for veterans of combat.  The U.S.A. is fortunate to have the best fighting men in the World.  This book really changed my life, I will never pass a person in uniform again without thanking them for their sacrifice and service.
i have read hundreds of books about america in vietnam. WAR is up with the best off them. read it twice. you feel your with the boys in some of the book. outstanding stuff. hope o;byrne got his shit together. if he ever visits northern ireland he has a place to stay.
Hi, I just bought the book "war" a week ago. And this book is just great stuff. It showes a journalist turning in his soul into a soldier. It reports of all the evil in a war. It shows the places god has left and the devil plays his evil games at. I was a soldier my self and I always had my doubts about journalists, but Sebastian is writing in a way I could feel it again. Feel the combat, feel war, taste the food, smell....everything. He was there for a long time. Not like others who show up for a few days and than go back into there safe homes and pretend to have seen the sh..... I was crying because of all my memories. I am still traumatized, having PTSD, but still able having sort of a normal life nowadays. I feel sorry for all those who can't go back to normal and share my nightmares, agression and havy feelings about civile life. Sebastian crossed a border any normal person would not understand. Thank you for the book.

WAR should become standard reading material for anyone and everyone who wants to know "What's it like over there?"  Sebastian took root with a platoon of airborne infantry in the most basest and barren of all combat zones and lived a life so few of us can ever dare to imagine.  Maybe more than a few people will now realize that in the end, deployments to areas like this are far more common than others know, whats asked of our soldiers in those areas is not so simple, and that coming home after such a deployment is not necessarily a relief or an easy task for them.   I plan on reading it again, and seeing Restrepo is on my "to do" list when I return home from this tour in Iraq. Two words Sebastian; Thank You.

hope you get home safe from a british citizen. we support our troops as well QUIS SEPARABIT eric

The biggest problem for the homecoming is not even going through the past. Everything that I experienced I can deal with. I see the world with different eyes nowadays. The biggest problem was that the society has no sence for soldiers who just came back from war. They vote for politics, politicians send soldiers into a war, but then after you did your job you are lost. A lot of comrades had the same experience, getting anoyed by people who are just disrespectfull. People even did ask me why I went down there. I was in a war a few times and people thought I am sort of a war junkee. The society needs more books and movies about that topic that they get more understanding and prepared for people coming home and beeing total wracks.
