"Restrepo" documentary - a Winner even without the trophy

I was so upset Restrepo didn't win that I turned off the broadcast of the Academy Awards.  I hope the soldiers featured in the film and the fim crew know they earned the respect of many, no friggin' Oscar required.  Keep up the good work!

Hi...

I'm new to the community, and I was actually motivated to find this site by the book (War) and further by last night's abomination.  I guess I shouldn't have expected the Hollywood community to acknowledge Restrepo, but I'll admit I was hopeful!

I had to comfort some of my battle hardened soldier/Facebook friends that I read somewhere that last night, after the Oscars, Paul Rieckhoff (founder of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America), tweeted: “Damn. "Restrepo" lost. Really would have been a good make-up call by the Academy after "Hurt Locker" last year.”  However, it's a solace to know that in2010 "Restrepo" won the highest award (Grand Jury Prize) at the Sundance Independent Film Festival in Utah. Praised as "Raw, poetic and so fucking brave" by Ondi Timoner, Sundance juror (founded by Robert Redford, no red carpet with frivolous dress critique LOL).

I couldn't agree more with your statement, I was disappointed but not surprised. First of all, "Restrepo's" content was unrivaled but it was also the production was excellent as  well. I thought maybe, there would be a moment honoring those who fought & still do, as well as some mention. Sebastian, thank you for showing what an outstanding job the 173rd Airborne did in the Korengal and for the masterpiece of fine journalism.
