Hi, Kathleen!

For me, the book was at least as impactful as the movie, if not more so. I did like the movie quite a bit, but it's just different. The book is a narrative, and the movie lets the action speak for itself. In the movie there are also very closely-shot (perhaps meant to convey an in-your-face intensity?) interviews with several of the men. I loved having read the book first, because it made the documentary that much more enjoyable. I recognized faces and put them together with the stories, and I knew more of the details of situations shown in the film. I would recommend - if you haven't already - that you check out the film's official website and go to the page marked Platoon. There you can mouse over all the faces of 2nd Platoon and they are identified by name.

The film will show on the National Geographic Channel on November 29th, and the DVD will ship November 30th. You can pre-order it here. (Buy two copies and you get a 20% discount.)

The DVD will be in stores and available on iTunes on December 7th, which I'm really thrilled about because it means all the people overseas clamoring to see it will finally be able to! (It isn't available for sale outside the U.S. - yet - due to distribution issues. I imagine a foreign distributor will pick it up at some point.)

I'm hoping that the DVD extras will include a Where Are They Now? section, because it seems everyone wants to know what these men are up to currently. I know a great many of them are still serving.

Best wishes!
Katarina
Hi gang
I just saw the movie again ,and as said many times before ,Its in your face .I will buy it show it to the members of my association (SOUTH FLORIDA ALLL AIRBORNE ASSOCIATION) so they too can see what it is like in the hell hole of that hill.We have been there ,done that and all the rest ,but to see where we went wrong ,only time will tell .The man are all "HEROES"in my eyes ,they do the impossible to survive every day ,and as we see some make the ultimate sacrifice ,will it be worrth it ? no lost of life is worth to die for if those you defend dont honor your sacrifice .We all know it has to happen someday ,the when?,that is the question.Only God knows that answer ,He doesnt tell ,He does.
