The annual Afghan opium harvest finished this month with production sharply down from last year. Now, growers and smugglers who had long been unchallenged here face tough choices created by the poor crop and new government and military pressure.

How are You? I read the links regarding Opium harvest..As usual the world does not vhange its underhanded way of establishing some sort of stability....I know a few who say if you can pull the wool over the eyes of Government..then do it...but lies are lies no matter where you live..so the cliche>.one bad apple spoils the whole bunch'''still fits...it is commendable that the military tried...thanks for posting....

hi everyone,

it's been a decade since i've written for newspapers (all pre-digital. nothing to show for it online.) but will join the field in some capacity once again.

while in college i thought i'd become a foreign correspondent but real life took ME in a different direction. so i live vicariously through the likes of sebastian, as well as michael ware and richard engel and a few journalists in the middle east that i follow on twitter.

i hope you'll accept this unemployed journalist into your midst. :) but hey, i'm not dead yet!
