Robert, is this, do you think, a fair representation of what Sebastian means when he talks about the wire that surrounds the various camps in the book? Is it barbed and razor wire like this? I always wondered what was specifically meant by that phrase.

You have it right, Mouse. It usually means 'outside the security of the base', but this is the C-wire that Sebastian refers to; it's everywhere on the perimeter. A typical barrier will consist of Hesco or concrete barriers topped off with this wire. In some cases it's laid out in front of the perimeter to prevent rapid access. I say 'rapid' because it can still be penetrated with a little effort put into it.
