"sexual assault is an issue on the large bases - as is pregnancy - but i've never heard of it at a small outpost. its 15 soldiers with zero privacy...its hard to imagine how the mechanics of sexual assault would work in that context. the larger…"

Hazing and Bullying in the Military

Following the Oct. 2011 apparent suicide of Army PVT Danny Chen in AFGH, the military (Army) has just rolled out its new Hazing Policy.   By all accounts Chen was repeatedly hazed and bullied in AFGH by those duly appointed over him due to his ethnicity to such an extent that he was driven to take his own life while serving a country he loved and was pledged to serve.  It is an unmitigated tragedy that we have allowed ourselves to become so hidebound and driven by "custom and tradition" that…See More

"Of course. I think you're misunderstanding how human sexuality generally works. And how soldiers work, for that matter. Civilian identity tends to get subsumed by the demands of combat, so being gay, female, black, rich, poor, educated,…"

Diversity and Sexuality in the Korengal

Given the demands and intensity of combat, and the abstinence deprivations of a 15-month deployment to places like the Korengal Valley, is it possible that a gay male soldier, or a straight female soldier could successfully serve a tour without being sexually assaulted by fellow soldiers.
