Some years back I grabbed a copy of NG Adventure Magazine. As I glanced through the pages, I came across the article about Ahmad Shah Massoud written by Sebastian Junger along with photos taken by Reza Deghati. It was as if I was plucked from outside the pages and placed within the story.
For a great part of my life I have traveled to austere locations to live a life of adventure while learning about different cultures. After being in Turkey for a few years, it was nice to read something that could give me more insight into other areas in the world that I had yet to travel. In 2004, I went to Afghanistan and spent three years trying to understand why and how the nations of the world cannot seem to fix a broken country with such beautiful and strong-willed people.
From that point onward, I made it a personnal goal to capture the smiles along with the hardships of this big world before my departure. I only prayer that Mr. Junger continues to write so I know what awaits me, or what I may not see in places I've never been.
