"You have it right, Mouse. It usually means 'outside the security of the base', but this is the C-wire that Sebastian refers to; it's everywhere on the perimeter. A typical barrier will consist of Hesco or concrete barriers topped off…"

"Thanks for the compliments on both photos Mouse... The smiles from the folks there are incredible. It's as if the smiles were like the sun coming out from behind clouds that have covered an area for centuries."

"Bradley, that was an intense encounter I'm sure, and it makes for some great reading. Bottom line - It’s good to see you come out of it unscathed. Thanks for posting the link for others to read. I can see you have English 101 taken care…"

Some years back I grabbed a copy of NG Adventure Magazine. As I glanced through the pages, I came across the article about Ahmad Shah Massoud written by Sebastian Junger along with photos taken by Reza Deghati. It was as if I was plucked from outside the pages and placed within the story.

For a great part of my life I have traveled to austere locations to live a life of adventure while learning about different cultures. After being in Turkey for a few years, it was nice to read something that could give me more insight into other areas in the world that I had yet to travel. In 2004, I went to Afghanistan and spent three years trying to understand why and how the nations of the world cannot seem to fix a broken country with such beautiful and strong-willed people.

From that point onward, I made it a personnal goal to capture the smiles along with the hardships of this big world before my departure. I only prayer that Mr. Junger continues to write so I know what awaits me, or what I may not see in places I've never been.
