The book war

I've just finished the book war. Sebastian I enjoyed it but it was very hard to get through some parts of it because if you noticed my name is the same as sergeant stichter in the book. He's my son. thank you for giving me and others some perspective on what these boys are going through. God bless them

Emotionally Embedded

Over on my blog, The Kitchen Dispatch, I have a video clip of Tim Hetherington speaking about the relationship formed with the platoon.

Excerpt:

"I wasn't familiar with the term until I sat down and spoke with filmmaker Tim Hetherington and asked him about his relationship with

Battle Company. Tim and Sebastian Junger completed ten embeds over the

course of a year in the Korengal… Continue

Juan Sebastian Restrepo......'Doc'.....

Documentary on war, 'Restrepo', chills slain soldier's mother

By Meg Laughlin, Times Staff Writer

Sunday, August 8, 2010

Two weeks ago, Marcela Pardo of Pembroke Pines stood in line at a movie theater in north Miami and paid full price to see Restrepo, an award-winning documentary about the war in Afghanistan named for her beloved child, Juan Restrepo.

She liked that no one in the theater knew her, and tried not to be bothered by people eating… Continue

Lack of Venues for Restrepo

Kanani - I appreciate you taking the time to explain the lack of venues for "Restrepo". Certainly there wasn't much in your explanation that surprised me. I want to believe more than anything that some things can transcend money in this country. Perhaps I'm just naive. One way or the other I will see this movie and I will make sure my son sees it, and I will spread the word as best I can just like I've been doing with regard to book (i.e. "War). Thank you once again for taking the…

Good Job: How SGT Donaho's Sister Got Restrepo To Redding

Yesterday, I wrote about Dallas Wright getting Restrepo to Little Rock, Arkansas. Dallas was able to capitalize on the good stroke of luck that Restrepo won Best Documentary at the Little Rock Film Festival, run by the Renaud Brothers. This little Film Festival packs a punch, and each year as it grow bigger it attracts more and more films that are critically received. Here's a photo of SGT Misha Pemble… Continue

How To Fix It: Why Can't I Find This Film?

I think someone called Restrepo, "The movie all Americans should see but probably won't."

Today, I was answering an email from a big wig up the chain of command, who ended it with "Other movie stars have come to and shown their movies prior to its release."

I wanted to nicely remind them Restrepo is a small film and it's already in theaters. It's a documentary with no big movie stars, no love scenes, no car chases, no sex scenes (though I'm sure the… Continue

Restrepo

Why is it so difficult to find this movie? Everyone should be able to see it. People in America need to see it. But I'll be damned if I can find a theater within an hour's drive that's playing it! Seriously - WTF movie theater owners!

Gen. Stanley McChrystal will teach at Yale this fall, Politico reports.

The four-star general will lecture on leadership in a course at Yale's new Jackson Institute for Global Affairs, which was founded last year with a $50 million gift from pharmaceutical businessman and philanthropist John Jackson and his wife.

The Washington Post reports that McChrystal's class will "examine how dramatic changes in globalization have increased the… Continue

Dinner in honor of Juan Sebastian Restrepo

On Friday July 23rd the documentary released by National Geographics (RESTREPO) in theaters across the country revealed the truth on the war in Afghanistan. My Fiancee and I sat with Marcela Pardo mother and Gloria Pardo grandmother of fallen US Army soldier Juan Sebastian Restrepo. We had never experienced nor witnessed the pain of a mother and grandmother on this magnitude before but were honored to sit beside them both.

On behalf of all of our sponsors and who believe in…
