Sebastian, I just finished "War" and thank you for the experience. I served in the 5th SFG in the late 80's and have often wondered what it would be like to be one of ours in Afghanistan, or to be in war for that matter. The closest I ever came to stress was Ranger school, and that was a cake walk compared to what the men with who you were imbedded endured. You brought me closer than anyone has - thanks for a great documentary, and, of course, thanks to the men of 2nd Platoon and everyone who served / having served in the Damn Valley, and to those who didn't make it out. I live in DC and would be glad to help out anyone you know who needs it - just let me know. Best, Jack

Hi Jack - thank you very much for that, and thank you on behalf of the men of second platoon. I know they really appreciate the thoughts of folks back home, particularly former soldiers. I hope our paths cross in DC sometime.

Best,

Sebastian

Hello!

I’m from Sebastian Junger’s publisher (Twelve Books). I worked on Sebastian’s book WAR, and this is a lovely comment. We all really appreciate comments like these (I can see that Sebastian has already told you so!), and we’ve been really heartened to see people in the military, and people with loved ones in the military, respond so strongly to the material.

I was wondering if we could include your quote as we do outreach to soldiers and military families. If you wouldn’t mind, could you kindly give us permission to use your quote? And, if you do give permission, how would you like your name and location to appear? We can identify you by your full name (or just your first name and an initial), location, and a description. For instance, “John S., Trenton NJ, soldier in the Korengal.”
Thank you! I hope to hear from you soon!
