For those of you who may not have heard, Tim Hetherington was tragically killed this morning, doing the work be believed in.   Please join us in honoring his memory.

The following is as statement from Sebastian Junger on the death of his dear friend:

"There is no way to express my devastation and sorrow at the death of my dear friend, Tim Hetherington in Misrata, Libya.  Tim was one of the most courageous and principled journalists I have ever known. The good that he accomplished – both with his camera, and simply as a concerned person in some of the most devastated countries in the world – cannot be measured. I can’t believe he is truly gone." Wednesday, 20/4/11 ...... What an incalculable loss for his family and friends - as well as for the worldwide community of people who respected and valued Tim Hetherington's unflinching dedication to always look things in the face and know them for what they are.

The word "hero" is over-used, however, I read something once where someone was trying to define what - or who - a hero might truly be;  it feels as if the definition belongs to Tim.  A hero is someone who cannot leave the world as it is - he changes it - he makes it change - before his time is done.   May Tim Hetherington's memory always be for a blessing.  Sheela

When I read that Tim Hetherington had died, I was shocked. His work has impacted me profoundly. I suppose that he knew the risks...I can only say thank you for taking them. A real loss...

Truly sadden by Tim's passing, his work provided us with a vision of the theater of war, unlike any other.  He took us to the battle field and helped us understand the raw nature of war, and also exposed us to the human frailty in military conflicts.  The world has lost one of its truly courageous storytellers. Thank you Tim, you will be missed, RIP.

I am shocked and deeply saddened by Tim's passing, having just heard it via BBC Radio 2 on line. "Restrepo" was brilliant and his contributions I recently read about in SJ's outstanding book "WAR" seem immeasurable. He appeared to pack more into his 40 years than most people do in several lifetimes. My deepest condolences to you dear Sebastian, on the passing of your gifted and generous friend.

I am so sad to hear this news. Tim was truly one of the good guys. I had the privilege to meet him a number of times and was always impressed with his lust for life. He was an outstanding human being, he will be greatly missed.

RIP Tim. Your earthly mission is complete. You will not be forgotten and your reportage from so many war zones was of the highest quality. God bless and keep you and may he comfort your family and your many friends

RIP Tim, and my Deepest Condolences to you Sebastian.  You both showed the danger and lighter side of War with Restrepo.  He will be greatly missed by all.
