Dear Sebastian and all you others who contributet to "War"
Firstly I want to thank you for a great book and movie.
I'm a teacher in Military English in the Swedish Armed Forces and more specificly in the Army branch. In the Swedish Armed Forces it is obligatory to take English courses and we have course plans for each course, so your book is in the litterature list.
I teach officer cadets, NCOs and also employed captains in Military English on a weekly basis. We focus a lot on vocabulary and definitions when it comes to tasks, movements, logistics, terrain and tactics.
Right now as I'm writing this, my NCO cadets are reading your book and preparing for seminars they hold every other week. They record their seminars with a video camera and I give them feedback afterwards. The discussions they have are really great! I have given them some bulletpoints to launch from when discussing e.g: In part one Fear: stress during attack, remembering and forgetting, the enemy, coming back to civilian life and communications with an intepreter. I have highlighted discussion topics from each part of the book.
I would like to know if there is a possibility to have someone here to give a lecture on War/Restrepo. Just to give their point of view and lead a discussion with our cadets. It would be really great since we work so hard with the book and we are going to watch the film as well, and the learning output would be good if we can finish with a lecture with someone who took part "out there". Everything would of course be organized by the Swedish Armed Forces.
Best regards,
Mari Luur Söderlund
