For those of you who may not have heard, Tim Hetherington was tragically killed this morning, doing the work be believed in. Please join us in honoring his memory.
The following is as statement from Sebastian Junger on the death of his dear friend:
"There is no way to express my devastation and sorrow at the death of my dear friend, Tim Hetherington in Misrata, Libya. Tim was one of the most courageous and principled journalists I have ever known. The good that he accomplished – both with his camera, and simply as a concerned person in some of the most devastated countries in the world – cannot be measured. I can’t believe he is truly gone." What an incalculable loss for his family and friends - as well as for the worldwide community of people who respected and valued Tim Hetherington's unflinching dedication to always look things in the face and know them for what they are.
The word "hero" is over-used, however, I read something once where someone was trying to define what - or who - a hero might truly be; it feels as if the definition belongs to Tim. A hero is someone who cannot leave the world as it is - he changes it - he makes it change - before his time is done. May Tim Hetherington's memory always be for a blessing. Sheela
The first rule is to keep an untroubled spirit.
The second is to look things in the face and know them for what they are. ~ Marcus Aurelius ~

Comment by Andrew Savage on April 20, 2011 at 8:10pm When I read that Tim Hetherington had died, I was shocked. His work has impacted me profoundly. I suppose that he knew the risks...I can only say thank you for taking them. A real loss...
Truly sadden by Tim's passing, his work provided us with a vision of the theater of war, unlike any other. He took us to the battle field and helped us understand the raw nature of war, and also exposed us to the human frailty in military conflicts. The world has lost one of its truly courageous storytellers. Thank you Tim, you will be missed, RIP.
