Just wanted to voice my appreciation for War. Not only did it give me a greater understanding of the conflict in Afghanistan, it helped me understand my father and his experience during D-Day and Operation Overlord. My father was withdrawn, insular. He always seemed to be protecting himself and wary. He was happiest when he was alone. Now, it all makes sense. Dad was awarded the Bronze Star and four major battle stars.
Dad passed in 1995; still a mystery to me. This book and Sebastian Junger's insights have provided pieces to the puzzle.
My many thanks.
Sincerely,

I am so sorry, your post somehow escaped my attention until now. Thank you so much for what you said...I really appreciate it. And I'm glad my book helped you understand your dad a bit more. I also shot and directed a movie about my platoon, called Restrepo. You may enjoy it.
Best wishes,
Sebastian

Thanks for your response. I admire your work and dedication. Especially enjoyed A Death In Belmont. I'm a writer myself, and have published three biographies on local celebrities, and recently submitted a short story to several literary magazines. Not in your league, though. I did study under Peter Ross Range, Time bureau chief in Saigon during the wrap-up of Viet Nam. He taught me more than any professor in any classroom. We met on a tennis court in Atlanta and became fast friends. I would modestly invite you, at your leisure, to visit greghoard.com. In the meantime, I will look forward to your next work. Right now, I'm buried in Mark Richard, Amy Hempel and Raymond Carver.
My Best,
Greg Hoard
